Bring classic summer flair to your table with a Crisp Waldorf Salad Sandwich. Packed with crisp and crunchy veggies, fresh fruit and walnuts and prepared on Dempster’s® White Bread, it's a delicious sandwich filling that's stood the test of time. Serves two.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 slices Dempster's® White Bread, toasted
  • 1 red apple, cored and diced
  • 1/3 cup (75 mL) halved green grapes
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) each salt and pepper
  • 4 leaves Boston lettuce

DIRECTIONS

  1. Toss together apple, grapes, celery, walnuts, mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt and pepper.
  2. Top each slice of toasted bread with lettuce and Waldorf salad mixture. Cap with remaining slice of bread.
  3. To serve, cut each sandwich in half.

Tip: Add leftover shredded roast chicken to the salad if desired.
