This sausage sizzler is simple yet brings all the flavour with grilled peppers, grainy mustard mayo, and that BBQ magic, all hugged by our classic Dempster’s® Original Hot Dog Buns. Perfect for turning those dog days of summer into hot dog days with friends and family!

INGREDIENTS

Base:

  • 1 pack Dempster’s® Original Hot Dog Buns
  • 8 smoked sausages

Toppings:

  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper (150 g), thinly sliced
  • 1 orange bell pepper (150 g), thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion (100–120 g), thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp (4 g) finely chopped parsley

Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) mayo
  • 2 tbsp (30 g) grainy mustard

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat a large pan over medium heat with olive oil. Once hot, add peppers and onions, season with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook for 25 – 30 minutes, stirring often until peppers and onions are caramelized and softened. Remove from heat, stir in chopped parsley.
  3. In a small bowl, stir together mayo and grainy mustard.
  4. Grill smoked sausages according to package directions.
  5. To assemble, spread mustard sauce over buns, place one cooked sausage in each bun, and top with the caramelized onions and peppers.
